What to Expect at Your First Visit

We are happy you have chosen us to help you.

Our goal at Creative Dental Specialists is to allow you to attain the highest level of dental health that YOU choose to reach. We hope that by attaining the highest level of dental health, you will come to realize the joy of a pleasing, comfortable and functional smile.

We believe that you should be aware of the best treatment that modern dentistry can offer. Remember, however, that “ideal” does not mean “the only.” We are always eager to discuss all possible treatment options open to you.

As a new patient, here are some things that you should expect on your visit at Creative Dental Specialists. In order to treat you comprehensively, the following diagnostic information needs to be collected: Medical history, dental history, full-mouth x-rays and complete periodontal (gum) exam. Depending on the complexity of your case, we may take impressions and photographs of your teeth. Once we have all the new patient diagnostic information, we can make a treatment plan that fits your desires and expectations.

Step 1

Why do I need to provide my medical and dental history?

It is extremely important for us to know if any medications are being taken or if you are being treated for any condition that can affect your dental treatment care, such as heart disease, diabetes, or pregnancy. Please print and fill out the health history form.

Step 2

Do I really need x-rays and are they safe?

Full-Mouth X-ray Dr. Steven Goldstein Dentist Scottsdale, AZDigital dental X-rays are required in order for us to provide you with the best care, and are one of the most important diagnostic tools we have in dentistry today. Radiographs show the condition of your teeth, their roots, jaw placement, and the composition of your facial bones. They can help detect the presence of tooth decay and/or degree of gum disease, abscesses, and abnormal growths. Please print and fill out the dental records release form.

Yes, dental x-rays are safe.
  • Exposure to very low levels of radiation which makes the risk of potentially harmful effects very small
  • Most people only need one set taken every two years. (The number of x-rays you need should be determined by your risk for gum disease and dental decay)
  • Digital x-rays (which we have) use about 80 percent less radiation than conventional ones

Step 3

Why do I need a periodontal examination?

During this exam we will examine your gums. We will check to see if there is any gum line recession, assess how the teeth fit together when biting, and check the teeth to see if any are loose. We will also use a small measuring instrument, called a probe, and will place it between the teeth and gums to determine the depth of those spaces. These are known as periodontal pockets, which will help us assess the health of your gums. These probing measurements, with the X-rays, will allow us to observe the health of the bone below the gum line.

Step 4

Why do we need to review my desires and expectations?

As stated above, our goal is to allow you to attain the highest level of dental health that you choose to reach. We believe that you should be aware of the best treatment that modern dentistry can offer. Remember, there may be more than one possible option for your treatment. We are eager to discuss all possible treatment options available to you.
